Abstract

"Community Learning Centers: New Vision Schools for the 21st Century" is the title of a new book being completed by College of Education faculty member Steve Parson. The book focuses on redefining the public schools as places where communities get involved in the educational process. One feature of the Community Learning Center model is for the technology of the schools to become accessible for all members of the community, with the school becoming a community technology center. This will help address the problem of inequity when some children come from homes with computers and internet connections, and other come from homes that have little technology available. Parson will share his ideas of what the new Community Learning Centers would look like in the 21st Century.
