Montgomery County Schools Seeks Technology Committee Volunteers

As part of the technology planning process Montgomery County Public Schools actively seeks the participation and input of community stakeholders. The purpose of the technology committee is to recommend goals, objectives, and priorities for technology in the school division. In addition to reviewing the current technology plan, members will be asked to attend approximately three evening meetings. Book Drive for the Deriek Crouse Memorial Fund

December 10, 2011 - January 31, 2012 time: Store hours 9am-8pm
In response to the tragic events of Dec 8, BookHolders has created an account for the Deriek Crouse Memorial Fund for anyone looking for a way to give. Simply bring books that you would like to donate (any book with an ISBN number) into the store at 125 North Main Street in Blacksburg and drop them off. All proceeds from the donation account will be given to the Deriek Crouse Memorial Fund. VT University Chamber Music Series: Vinson Cole, tenor with Tracy Cowden

American tenor Vinson Cole is internationally recognized as one of the leading artists of his generation. His career has taken him to all of the major opera houses across the globe including the Metropolitan Opera, Opera National de Paris Bastille, Teatro alla Scala Milan, Theatre Royale de la Monnaie, Brussels, Berlin State Opera and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Munich State Opera, San Francisco Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Opera Australia and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Seattle Opera and many more. Seed Starting Workshop at the Hahn Horticulture Garden

Get a jump start on Spring with an info-packed workshop on how to get the most out of your vegetable and flower seeds. Dr. Holly Scoggins will cover seed saving and storage, strategies to enhance germination, and care of seedlings. You’ll take home professional-quality tools of the trade including reusable starter trays, professional germination mix, a humidity dome, seeds, and other goodies to get you growing! The Southern Mountain Square Dance

The NRV's community square dance- with Caller Liam Kelly - music by fiddler Paul Herling and "Indian Run String Band" – Appalachian roots music and dance at its best! Performing Arts Institute of Virginia Faculty Recital: Inessa Borisovna

February 14, 2012 time: 11:00 AM
The Music School of The Performing Arts Institute of Virginia and The Blacksburg Music Club partner to present an Artist Faculty Recital featuring Inessa Borisovna and the Music of Gershwin. Ms. Borisovna is a successful award-wining professional pianist with extensive experience performing, accompanying and teaching students of all ages. Previously, she performed and taught in Azerbijan, under the patronage of Rostropovich, the former music director/ conductor of U.S. National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. Ms. Borisovna received her Masters Degree in Piano Performance from the State Conservatory in Azerbijan in the Soviet Union (formerly Russia). VT Rec Sports 11th Annual Bench Press Competition

February 18, 2012 time: Weigh-in 7:30-8:30am, Competition 10am
Virginia Tech Recreational Sports, along with sponsor Total Motion Physical Therapy, will host the 11th Annual Bench Press Competition on Saturday, Feb. 18 in War Memorial Hall. The competition will include a Men’s Open, Men’s Raw, and Ladies’ Open divisions, and is open to all Virginia Tech patrons and the general public. Blue Mountain School 3rd Annual Mardi Gras Costume Ball

In its third year, this FUNdraiser for Blue Mountain School in Floyd the has lined up a five-piece all-star band featuring Kerry Hurley, Janiah Allen, Chris Blankenship, Christophe Mondot and Jake Dempsey, plus special guests and two opening acts: Spoon Fight and Attakk. Natasha Shishkevish is putting on authentic New Orleans cuisine, Dogtown Roadhouse will have wood-fired pizza and boutique beer, and there will be an auction, prizes, beads galore, and the annual crowning of Floyd’s Mardi Gras King and Queen—with unique crowns designed by Gabriele Hilger—to look forward to.
