Sustainability Week: Celebrate – Educate – Motivate

The Town of Blacksburg, Virginia Tech, and Sustainable Blacksburg will “Celebrate – Educate – Motivate” on sustainability issues with a variety of events during the week of September 13th through the 21st. Blacksburg Farmer's Market

September 20, 2014 time: 8am-2pm location: Blacksburg Market Square
The Blacksburg Farmer's Market happens every week in Blacksburg Market Square (Saturdays only January - March, Wednesdays and Saturdays April - December). Come see live music, sample fresh harvested produce, or spin a hula hoop in the sunshine. More than a market, it's a community gathering place, with a full calendar of entertainment and educational activities. See for lots more information.

Town of Blacksburg Fall Cleanup

September 22, 2014 - October 17, 2014 time: All day
The Town of Blacksburg Fall Cleanup pickup is scheduled as follows:

  • Northeast Quadrant (Thursday refuse and recycling service): Week of September 22
  • Southeast Quadrant (Monday refuse and recycling service): Week of September 29
  • Northwest Quadrant (Tuesday refuse and recycling service): Week of October 6
  • Southwest Quadrant (Friday refuse and recycling service): Week of October 13
Brush, metal appliances, tires, and other debris must be placed curbside in separate piles by 7am on the Monday of your collection week. Collection services are available to town refuse and recycling customers only. For a list of prohibited items and more information be sure to check Town of Blacksburg Public Works: Spring and Fall Cleanup or call 540-961-1142.

Blacksburg Market Square Jam: Wednesdays, 8-10pm

September 24, 2014 time: 8-10pm location: Blacksburg Market Square
Blacksburg’s Market Square Jam takes place on Wednesday evenings from 8-10 pm, June through September, in Market Square Park downtown on the corner of Draper Road and Roanoke Street. The Jam is an official Crooked Road affillated venue, and features traditional old time and bluegrass music. Presented by The Town of Blacksburg; see their Market Square Jam page for scheduled performers and more details.

VT Student Ensemble Concert: An evening of big band jazz

October 3, 2014 time: 7:30pm location: Squires Haymarket Theatre

The Blacksburg Square Dance

October 4, 2014 time: 8:00pm to 11:00pm location: Dance Barn at Homestead Farm
The NRV's community square dance and a ‘Crooked Road’ affiliated venue- with caller Phil Louer - music by ‘Indian Run String Band’ with fiddler Paul Herling – Appalachian roots music & dance at its best !!- No partner or dance experience needed. 6th Annual Blacksburg Brew Do

October 25, 2014 time: Noon-6pm location: First & Main Shopping District
The 6th Annual Blacksburg Brew Do, a craft beer festival, is slated for Saturday, October 25th from noon to 6pm at the First & Main Shopping District. Over 100 different beers from around 40 local, Mid-Atlantic, and national craft- and micro-breweries will be poured. There will also be a Homebrew Competition, brewing demonstrations, culinary delights from local restaurants, and live entertainment throughout the day. Proceeds from this event will benefit The Blacksburg Partnership, a non-profit organization working to enhance the quality of life in Blacksburg.
