Mount Tabor Ruritan Club Fish Fry & Music

September 11. All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry from 5 to 7 p.m. at Slusser's Chapel Picnic Shelter, 1531 Mount Tabor Road, Blacksburg. Fish, Fries, Slaw, Homemade Desserts, and Beverage. Adults-$7, children (under 12)-$3, carry-outs-$7. Held rain or shine. Simple Gifts of the Blue Ridge will be playing this month. Event is fundraiser for Ruritan Club's community service projects.

Blacksburg Newcomers Club Monthly Meeting

Second Tuesday of each month from September-May. Members provide a warm welcome to the New River Valley with monthly programs, special events, projects to help local charities, and interest groups to share hobbies. Meetings are held at Luther Memorial Church at 600 Prices Fork Road on the corner of Tom's Creek and Prices Fork Roads in Blacksburg. Residents may join at any time after moving to the area for a fee of $20 which includes monthly programs and newsletters. Every Saturday, 8 AM to 2 PM. The master gardener booth at the Blacksburg Farmers Market will be answering gardening questions and also a drop off point for donated perishables for www.ampleharvest.org.

Broadband Mapping Initiative

The Virginia Tech eCorridors program is supporting an assessment of broadband access to determine the ways in which businesses are connecting to, and using broadband technologies (services and applications). Results from the assessment will be integrated into the Commonwealth's comprehensive broadband mapping initiative that is currently underway and will provide the basis for future broadband policy and training initiatives. eCorridors urges business owners to take advantage of this opportunity to participate in Virginia's statewide assessment of broadband connectivity and access. The Experiential Gallery at Kent Square

The Experiential Gallery for creative technologies is an example of the collaboration of the arts, technology and education at Virginia Tech in support of the university's new Center for Creative Technologies in the Arts and the Arts Initiative. Click Your Way to Better Health

Psychologists in Virginia Tech's College of Science are seeking participants for a newly developed free Internet program that helps people make permanent lifestyle changes to improve their health. "Guide-to-Health" provides the skills, support and information people need to increase physical activity, eat more nutritiously, and prevent weight gain.
