BEV Transition Planning

BEV customer services will end on December 31, 2015

As explained on the BEV Transition Announcement page, the Blacksburg Electronic Village will stop providing its remaining customer services at the end of 2015. If you are still using one or more BEV services, here are some suggestions on how to migrate to a new provider.

Email account transition

  • Select a new email account provider and register for an account. You may want to look at these references:
  • Use your BEV email password to logon to the BEV email configuration site (https://secure.bev.net/mailadm/) and forward your email to the new email address.
  • Look at the email that is arriving in your new mailbox. Find the senders still using your old BEV.NET address, and notify them to start using your new address.
  • When you no longer need your old BEV.NET address, you can use the BEV Transition Contact Form to notify us to stop forwarding your old BEV.NET email to your new account.
  • If you do not notify us sooner, forwarding of BEV.NET email to your new account will stop at the end of December, 2015.

Community Connections / Arts Connections website transition

  • These websites have URL addesses like arts.bev.net/myorganization or civic.bev.net/myorganization.
  • Many Community Connections and Arts Connections websites are already redirected to new websites- if so, no action is necessary.
  • If you need to move your web site to a new provider:
  • When you no longer need your arts.bev.net or civic.bev.net website, please notify us using the BEV Transition Contact Form. If you set up a new site, notify us as soon as it is ready so we can redirect all requests for your old BEV URL to the new site.
  • BEV civic.bev.net and arts.bev.net web sites will stop working at the end of December, 2015.

Email list transition (Listserv)

  • If your organization uses a BEV-provided email list (list addresses typically look like "myorganization@listserv.bburg.bev.net"), you will need to find a new email list provider. Here are some suggestions:
  • Once you have set up a new email list, the easiest way to get your members to convert is to notify them to subscribe to the new list by a certain date. After that date, begin using the new list, and notify us that you no longer need the old BEV list using the BEV Transition Contact Form.

Domain Name Service transition

  • A few organizations used BEV-hosted services under their own Domain Name (e.g. a website named "www.myorganization.org" or email addresses like "myname@myorganization.org"). BEV has usually provided Domain Name Service for those customers. Note that this does NOT apply if your BEV services use website names like civic.bev.net/myorganization and email addresses like myname@bev.net.
  • If your organization uses BEV Domain Name Service, please contact us using the BEV Transition Contact Form to plan your migration to a new provider.
