Netscape Communicator Versions 4.5
- Launch the Netscape Communicator application.
- From the menu bar of the Mac desktop, click on "Edit", then select
"Preferences" sub-menu item.
- The left portion contains a list of several menu items. Click once on the
arrow to the left of "Mail & Newsgroups" item. This should expand
to show subordinate items.
- Click on the "Identity" item which is under "Mail &
Groups". The right side of the "Preferences" window now displays
several "Identity" fields.
- Enter your complete BEV email address in the field labeled "Your Email"
For example, johndoe@bev.net. Unless you wish for people to reply to
you using an email other than your BEV address, leave the "Reply-to Address"
field blank.
- Next, click on the "Mail Server" item located under "Mail
& Newsgroups".
- Within the "Incoming Mail Servers" frame, click on the name of
the existing configuration from the list box, then click the "Edit"
button. This brings up "Mail Server Properties" dialog box.
- Click on the "General" tab of the "Mail Server Properties"
dialog box.
- Enter pop.bev.net into the field labeled "Server Name"
- The combo box labeled "Server Type" should display "POP3
Server" or "POP Server" If not, then click the arrow on the
box to drop down a list, then choose "POP3 Server"
- Using only lower case letters, enter your BEV PID into the field labeled
"User Name". This is the first part of your email address. For example,
if your address is johndoe@bev.net then your user name is johndoe
- Click the "OK" button on the "Mail Server Properties"
dialog box.
- Within the "Outgoing Mail Server" frame, in the field labeled
"Outgoing mail (SMTP) server", enter your SMTP server hostname The
field labeled "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" should be left blank
or it is OK if Netscape automatically filled in a username.
- Click the "OK" button near the lower right corner of the "Preferences"
window to save your changes.
The next time you check your email Netscape will prompt you to enter the password
for your BEV account.
