MEDICATIONS:

In order to inform you as a health consumer, the sites below provide information on the topics of non-prescription and prescription medications. To bring you current consumer drug information, these sites are tailored to safe drug use, on-going clinical research studies, recently approved drugs in the United States, and drug interactions.

These resources will help you learn more about the prescription and non-prescription medications you take. Please contact your health care provider and pharmacist before starting, stopping, or changing doses of your medications. The following links will be displayed in a second window.

MedlinePlus Drug Information

The National Library of Medicine's MedlinePlus program offers information on thousands of drugs based on the databases of Medmaster™ and the USP DI® Advice for the Patient®. It provides links to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Warnings and Recalls site, and medication safety information. People looking for help identifying on-going clinical research studies will also find useful links on this page.

Consumer Drug Information

The FDA's Consumer Drug Information site provides information on the most recently approved drugs in the United States. A downloadable information sheet is available for each of these medications. Patients will find these sheets useful in talking with their physicians, pharmacist, and other health care providers.

AARP

This site, sponsored by AARP, formerly known as the American Association of Retired Persons, provides a wealth of information on medications and their safe use. The website offers information on the use of generic drugs, medication costs, and links to many other resources. The AARP is one of the most active organizations seeking to develop and support legislation that will enable Americans to affordable access the medications that they need. The AARP also offers its members opportunities to purchase their medications at reduced prices.

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is the main government agency responsible for improving the safety of medical care in the United States. This website provides a free, downloadable consumer booklet, designed to help you better understand how to use medications safely.

Familydoctor.org Drug Information

Need to learn more about your non-prescription (over-the-counter) medications? Want to learn what happens when you drink alcoholic beverages and take these drugs? The Familydoctor.org site provides this information and a lot more, including information about medications for children. Prepared and presented by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Familydoctor.org webpage also includes links to information on prescription medications too.
