Aetna InteliHealth

Aetna InteliHealth offers a range of information on medications, measures to determine a healthy lifestyle, and personal health related search options. Aetna has partnered with The Harvard Medical School’s Consumer Health Information program which can give you the latest national health news and opinion poll results. This interactive site offers video tours and explanations of your health concerns. There is an additional feature that lets you join health-related discussions through the use of Community Chat Boards. It is a great place to share information with other community members about common medical issues, questions, and concerns.

Center for Disease Control

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is operated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. National Cancer Institute

The National Cancer Institute (NCI), created by the National Cancer Act of 1937 as part of the National Institutes of Health, is the federal government’s main agency for cancer research and education. Information on the NCI website includes descriptions of organizations involved in cancer research and contact information for those groups currently looking for individuals with cancer who would like to participate in a clinical trial. The site is one of the richest resources for finding information on the latest cancer treatments, prevention, and coping with the disease. Virginia Department of Health

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) manages a very detailed health information website, allowing users to conduct their own information searches and access summaries of the latest health information. You can search for information about your local health department, examine health topics using an alphabetical index, and explore health-related programs available to residents, such as the prescription assistance program. Finding a local health care provider is easy using the search engine on this site. The VDH also offers a link from which you may order vital records such as birth, marriage, or death certificates.

Since 1997, Healthfinder has been recognized as a reliable source of health information on the Internet. Healthfinder offers information about national health issues, health concerns specific to age and gender, the latest in policy and regulation issues, and links to Healthfinder organizations, including government agencies, universities, and non-profit information clearinghouses. This FDA is responsible for approving and overseeing the drugs and other medical devices that we use. National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute is one of the largest institutes at the National Institutes of Health. In addition to funding research in this area, it provides the general public with a range of health-related information sources. The Health Information page is broken into categories for the general public and health professionals, allowing easier use by various types of users. Press releases dating back to 1997 are available on heart-related issues. It also contains an extensive listing of contact information, including the Health Information Center, where you will find additional information about your health concerns.

National Health Information Center

The National Health Information Center (NHIC) is a health information referral service, established in 1979 by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Office of Public Health and Science, Office of the Secretary, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The user-friendly resource database includes over 1,800 organizations and government offices that provide information upon request.
